Jason Lee Bruns (b. October, 3, 1979, Coldwater, Ohio) is an American percussionist, drummer, producer and educator. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance (with a Minor in composition) from Miami University and a Master’s degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California as well as certificates from the Mangueira Samba School in Brazil and the International Folklore Laboratory in Havana, Cuba. As performer he has shared the stage with Stevie Wonder, Sean “P-Diddy” Combs, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Rev. Al Sharpton and as a sideman in the house bands for Lewis Price (The Temptations), Neil Sedaka, Liane Carroll (2x BBC Jazz Award Winner) and the Wild Ginger Philharmonic.  Jason has performed at Los Angeles' top venues including Disney Hall, House of Blue, La Ve Lee Jazz Club, Spazio's, Herb Alpert's Vibrato, and the famous Catalina Jazz Club. As a producer he has released several CD’s on the Panout Music Group label. These include "45 RPM", “JLB Jazz Collective with Jason Gamer”, “Tapas”, “The Egrem Session” -recorded at the famous Egrem Studio in Havana Cuba (Buena Vista Social Club), and "L.A.C.E." by the L.A. Caribbean Ensemble (Southern California's Premier Event Band - where urban meets island) which are all available at iTunes, Amazon and CDBaby and can be heard on Pandora. Jason is the musical director and founder of the “Jason Lee Bruns Jazz Collective" and the “LA Caribbean Ensemble” both of which perform frequently at Catalina Jazz Club (L.A. No. 1 Jazz Venue). He has held an artist residency for the City of Los Angeles and is the founder of the World Music program at Campbell Hall in North Hollywood, CA; a program that includes two steel drum orchestras, a Brazilian percussion ensemble and a salsa percussion band.  Jason also teaches Music theory & Composition, Audio Engineering & Recording Technologies, and directs the beginning and advanced Contemporary Ensembles.   He is a member of the American Federation of Musician's (Local 47) and the Percussive Arts Society to which he has been a published author in their academic journal “Percussive Notes” as well as BMI and the Recording Academy. Jason specializes in Jazz, R&B, Pop, and Afro-Latin drum set playing.  He also plays the soprano/lead steel drum and knows the in's 'n out's of playing all the folkloric Brazilian & Cuban percussion instruments and genres.   Behind the drum set he is known for his unique ability of re-creating the texture and deep tribal groove of a large percussion ensemble (audience members claiming he sounds like 5 people at once). Contrastingly, Jason's got his start drumming to Classic Rock albums along with drummer's such as John Bonham (Led Zeppelin), Sib Hashian (Boston), Keith Moon (The Who), and  Dave Krusen (Pearl Jam), to name a few.  In a pop setting Jason's hard grooving yet precise & intricate drumming style has been compared by some to that of Stewart Copland (The Police).   You can hear samples of Jason's wide range of playing styles on the Music Page.
